SafetyTech

Technology solutions created to improve safety, protect humans and enhance health

SafetyTech is the collective term for technology, products and services that are enhancing health and safety management whilst reducing workplace harm. It’s a growing concept with an estimated global revenue of USD $863Bn per annum by 2023.

Mike O’Brien, FutureSafe Aotearoa Program Director

“Technology can disrupt and provide a “step change” in health, safety and wellbeing outcomes. We can use technology to systematically remove blockages between innovation and market access. We should utilise technology to proactively develop New Zealands innovation capability and open up channels to market, both locallyand globally.”

Proof is in the pudding

Lloyd’s Register Foundation forecasts a combined global industry potential for this emerging market of USD $863bn within three years. Their report shines a light on how the application of digital solutions on safety challenges leads to societal and business impact, in the process creating a new SafetyTech market. They have tested this concept with accelerator programmes and proven the opportunity clearly exists.

The National Safety Council of America note a significant turn to and interest in safety technology in their Work to Zero 2020 report. Technology options have grown exponentially in today’s Industry 4.0 market where advances in connecting people through internet of things platforms makes it possible to measure and analyse real-time behaviour with much more precision than could be done 10 years ago.

Let’s rewrite the rules of health, safety and wellbeing

Let’s use this opportunity

Technology presents a transformative opportunity to revolutionise health, safety, and wellbeing outcomes, creating a step change that can redefine standards across industries. By harnessing the power of technology, we can systematically eliminate barriers that hinder innovation and market access, unlocking untapped potential. This is our chance to proactively strengthen New Zealand's innovation ecosystem, equipping it to thrive in a competitive global landscape. By leveraging technology strategically, we can open new pathways to market both locally and internationally, positioning New Zealand as a leader in innovation and driving meaningful, sustainable progress.

A compounding cycle of growth

SafetyTech solutions offer a transformative opportunity to establish a billion-dollar export industry while significantly advancing harm reduction efforts in New Zealand. By strategically investing in innovation through incubator programs and fostering access to seed funding, we can accelerate the development, testing, and launch of cutting-edge products.

These solutions, designed to reduce workplace harm, have the potential to not only benefit New Zealanders but also resonate on the global stage as we export them to international markets. The revenue generated from these exports can then be reinvested back into our innovation ecosystem, creating a compounding cycle of growth.

This feedback loop not only fuels faster product innovation and deployment but also strengthens New Zealand's economy, all while achieving safer workplaces at an unprecedented pace. It's a win-win strategy for both economic prosperity and wellbeing.

Totika

  • Pre-qualification and assessment of health and safety is an important part of the procurement process. Before Tōtika, there was no common standard for pre-qualification, resulting in many proprietary and internal pre-qualification schemes, creating inefficiency in the supply chain because suppliers had to repeatedly pre-qualify against different schemes and standards. This repeated and duplicated effort wastes time and money for both clients and contractors. There is a strong desire within the industry alike for a common pre-qualification standard and streamlined pre-qualification process; Tōtika has been developed to deliver these outcomes.
